Okra’s Cajun Creole: Bayou Flavors

Virginia sits on the border of the American South, and Manassas is a great place to sample some of the robust and flavorful dishes that come from that region. Cajun and Creole cuisine folds classic French traditions in with the native ingredients and diverse cultures of the South, and locals rave about the delicious dishes on offer at Okra’s. Named after the distinctive vegetable that is a staple in gumbos, Okra’s has been serving appreciative regulars in the heart of Old Town for years. Some of the best dishes on the menu include the delicious Choctaw oysters – bivalves roasted on the half shell with creamy corn, Andouille sausage, and herbs, as well as the alligator bites. Not too many restaurants around Manassas serve alligator, and it’s a unique delicacy. The variety of New Orleans style po’ boy sandwiches on offer is impressive – try the fried oysters. Okra’s also stocks a number of excellent Louisiana microbrews.
