They’ve got authentic Vietnamese cuisine, including that delectable soup, Pho, that’s a melding of meat, noodles, veggies and herb-infused broth. Enjoy a big bowlful for lunch or dinner – it’s reputed to have miraculous healing properties. They also have a nice array of rice and noodle plates, including Bun Ga Nuong – vermicelli with charbroiled chicken, Bun Tom Nuong – vermicelli with charbroiled shrimp, and Com Bi Suong Nong – steamed rice with shredded pork and crispy pork skin. Speedy service, reasonable prices and tasty food make this a winner, whether you stop by for lunch or dinner.

Houston Museum of Natural Science: A Learning Adventure

A visit to the Houston Museum of Natural Science is a great way to explore the fascinating world we inhabit. It’s a small museum with some great exhibits for adults and some hands-on ones for kids. The Life Science exhibit features a collection of live frogs, and includes the Giant African Bullfrog and Amazon Milk Frogs. It also contains a variety of animal skulls from around the world, including the duckbill platypus and killer whale. The Science of a Sphere exhibit investigates the surface of Mars and features a giant animated globe. The Discovery Works exhibition is specifically geared to kids, with interactive features that let them experience science in motion. The Digital Dome Theatre shows a different movie every half-hour on a giant domed screen. Not far from Marquis at Katy, the Houston Museum of Natural Science is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays until 6 p.m.

The Original Marini’s Empanada House

A fire closed down the Original Marini’s Empanada House back in 1985 after 14 years in business, but they came back after a hiatus and began again serving the empanadas that their customers love. If you’re unfamiliar with empanadas, they’re delectable little turnovers stuffed with either sweet or savory ingredients. Savory empanadas include a Beef Gaucho with ground beef, hard-boiled egg, olive, onions & spices, a Fugazetta with sautéed onions, provolone cheese, mozzarella & spices and Four Cheeses with mozzarella, provolone, cheddar and asagio. Desert empanadas feature the Banana Special with sliced bananas, cheese, cinnamon, raisins, dulce de leche & whipped cream, and Apple with Everything with diced apple, cheese cinnamon & raisins. Specialty sandwiches and smoothies are also offered.
