Check Out These Quirky (and Useful) DIY Projects Using Mason Jars

October 22, 2015 1:33 pm

You’ve seen mason jars used in hip cocktail bars, at rustic weddings, and even in friends’ homes, but did you know that these cheap containers can also be used as the foundation of DIY projects? If you want to make new use of all of those old mason jars, these simple (and useful) projects can help.

Mason Jar Wall Planter [notjustahousewife.net/]
By attaching a few glass mason jars to a piece of reclaimed wood, you can create a whole new type of hanging planters. Use common pipe clamps from the hardware store to attach the jars to the wood, and then fill them with soil and plant whatever types of herbs or houseplants that you like best.

Baby Food Jar Snow Globes [craftaholicsanonymous.net]
If you just had a new baby and have lots of used baby food jars lying around, repurpose them into quirky snow globes that make wonderful gifts this holiday season. Simply place some miniature trees or other figurines in the bottoms, fill the jar with water and glitter, and seal it all off with waterproof adhesive.

Main Event: From Laser Tag Arena to Indoor Ropes Course

October 15, 2015 1:34 pm

Other bowling alleys, laser tag arenas, and mini golf courses can't hold a candle to Webster's Main Event, regulars say. That's because this family fun center doesn't just have one of these kid-friendly attractions—it has all of them. Bring along your entire brood and play a round of laser tag in Main Event's decked-out obstacle course, complete with secret passageways, glowing arches, and creeping fog. There's also a bowling alley, brought into the modern era by screens over the lanes and soft colored lighting.

Mini golf, karaoke, and arcade games are all available at Main Event, as well, but perhaps the most unique attraction? The Gravity Ropes. Perhaps more aptly described as an indoor ropes course, the Gravity Ropes give kids a chance to test their agility as they're hoisted aloft. The midair obstacle course features all necessary safety precautions, but that shouldn't detract from the thrill as you or your child scramble across rope bridges and climb various other structures.
