Awesome gravity-defying dance showcase makes Texas debut in Houston

Houstonians are about to become the first Texans to see an unforgettable dance performance. Red Bull Flying Bach combines a classical masterpiece with modern ballet and a world-champion breakdance crew for a synergistic performance that is absolutely out of this world.

Red Bull Flying Bach makes its Texas debut October 13-15 and again on October 17-18 at Wortham Center’s Lillie and Roy Cullen Theater. The Houston run is only the third time the company has played in the United States.

You might wonder: Bach and breakdance? Whatever you’re thinking, it’s not anywhere near as cool as the reality. At times sultry or playful and other times surreal, Red Bull Flying Bach is full of explosive moves and carefully orchestrated choreography that make the fusion sophisticated and approachable. Audiences of all ages and demographics around the world have been captivated by its acrobatic artistry.

In a creative clash that fuses urban culture with classical tunes, four-time breakdance world champions The Flying Steps offer forth their interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s “The Well-Tempered Clavier” in a performance that looks like something from your favorite dance-off movie.

Founded in 1993, The Flying Steps continue to push the limit with breathtaking choreography and diverse appeal. Co-founder and choreographer Vartan Bassil joined forces with musical director Christoph Hagel to create Red Bull Flying Bach. Along with Swedish ballerina Anna Holström, the company pays homage to Bach’s opposing themes, intricate notes and complex rhythms. Pirouettes and flares, head spins and pliés convey evocative stories to the audience throughout the show.

Red Bull Flying Bach premiered in 2010 in Berlin’s Neue Nationalgalerie, bringing the sold-out audience to its feet and Bassil’s dream of combining urban breakdance with classical music to reality. Since then, the dance crew has been touring the globe, only recently adding U.S. dates to their tour.

The show just added two more performances to its Houston dates to keep up with demand. Here’s a complete list:
