If back-to-school season has you looking to wrangle your clothes, shoes, and accessories, take note of the latest closet trends from Zillow. The real estate company just issued a fall trend home forecast naming the three hottest ideas in organization.

See-through
At the top of the list: transparent storage materials. Frosted glass doors and see-through boxes are predicted to gain popularity, says Nina Magon, Zillow Digs designer and principal of Contour Interior Design.

"Closets, especially bedroom closets, are becoming more like clothing exhibitions to display purchases more as collections, making transparent materials key," Magon says.

Greg Bartlett, president of Tailored Living, a custom closet company based in Allen, Texas, says that see-through options have another more pragmatic benefit: "They're a little less expensive," he says.

Sliding doors, curtains, even closet expansions are gaining favor over small, contained spaces — all the better to showcase your favorite items.

His-and-hers
Split or his-and-hers finishes are set to become all the rage. Dark wood and leather gives off a masculine air; warm white paint colors and metallic accents glam up a feminine dressing room.

Not only do these finishes create a defined sense of space, but you'll never fight about whose side of the closet things belong on again.

Lighting
The single overhead light is about to be replaced by directed lighting and spotlights, which not only make it easier to tell that navy skirt from the black, but also give closets the feel of an upscale boutique that homeowners crave.

Bartlett says that such lighting requests tend to come from his most well-heeled clients.

"Lighting is expensive, but it can be useful if you want to accentuate certain areas in your closet, like purses or shoes," he says.

The overall effect is one of liberating your closet by embracing transparent materials and banishing heavy doors that shut out light.
