Krispy Kreme returns to Houston with long lines, diehard fans and hot doughnuts

November 3 is an important day in Houston's history. While attention should probably be focused on the elections being held, hundreds of Houstonians will remember it for a different reason: as the day Krispy Kreme Doughnuts opened at 8611 Westheimer and officially returned to Houston.
Yes, two years after local franchisee Dulce Restaurants, LLC revealed its intention to open Krispy Kreme outlets in the Bayou City and several months after it missed a targeted opening date in February, the signature "Hot Now" light has been lit.
The morning crew from 94.5 The Buzz officially acquired the first dozen off the line, but it was Ivan Smith-Gains who got in line at 7:30 am Monday to earn one free dozen every week for a year. The rest of the first 100 people in line took home a free dozen per month for a year.
Only the most diehard fans should seek out the donuts today. Social media reports indicate that wait times are running an hour or more either standing or at the drive-thru.
Thankfully, the supply of Krispy Kreme will increase steadily. The location at 5611 Hwy 6 has set November 17 as its opening day, and locations in Pasadena and near NRG Stadium should follow soon.
