Farmers’ markets are a great place to support your local neighborhood vendors and also grab some fresh local foods, so having a regularly occurring one in your neighborhood can be a real bonus, especially when moving to a new city. So, residents of The Shelby, be sure to check out the Old Town Farmers’ Market at Market Square Plaza. The Old Town Farmers’ Market is located just under three miles from The Shelby and has been operating every Saturday for more than 260 years—George Washington even had his produce sold at this very market.

There are plenty of things to shop for when visiting Old Town Farmers’ Market. As with many markets of this kind, you’ll find fresh fruit and vegetables in addition to specialty items like meat and cheese, freshly made pasta, and bread. Outside of food, you’ll find vendors selling artisanal goods like jewelry and paintings. The market is open from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Saturday, all year long.
