You don't actually have to leave the DC metropolitan area to experience extreme sports, thanks to the globe-trotting world tour of the Banff Mountain Film Festival. Based in the Canadian Rocky Mountains of Alberta, the film festival showcases pieces of cinema that transport guests around the world through the eyes of adventurous athletes.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival will make a stop in Washington, DC from January 24th to the 31st, so you have an entire week's worth of opportunities to check out the films. National Geographic Live will screen them for rapt audiences. Explore the farthest reaches of Lebanon; traverse the exotic climate of South Africa; peek behind the curtain in Korea. The stars of these films show off everything from arctic climbing to slack-lining, so get ready for an adventure when you come to the film festival.
