Alexandria has existed for longer than the nation itself. In fact, George Washington used to frequent a pub in Old Town. The city showcases this long and rich history in its many buildings on the National Register of Historic Places—more than 4,000 of them, to be precise. When Alexandria's 85th Historic Garden Week comes to town this month, you can get a glimpse inside several of them on the Historic Garden Week Walking Tour.
It's slated for Saturday, April 21st at 10 a.m. Anyone with a ticket will be able to explore five homes, typically private residences, for the following six hours. Each boasts a beautiful garden outside. Walk around and drink in the floral fragrances before you head indoors and experience the historic architecture and decor that awaits you there. Afterward, head to St. Paul's Episcopal Church for complimentary refreshments or snag a table at one of the many eateries in Old Town.
