Old Town Candlelight Tours: Explore Your Historic City on December 9th
December 6, 2017 | greystar
Alexandria is a historic city, so it makes sense to experience it washed in the flickering light of candles, just as its residents would have many years ago. This time of year, the city of Alexandria hosts a day of Old Town Candlelight Tours, inviting guests to explore town the old-timey way.
The self-paced tours start at 4 p.m. on December 9th and run until 9 p.m. The first stop is Gadsby's Tavern Museum, an establishment where George Washington, John Adams, and many other historic figures once dined and slept. Next stop: the Carlyle House, a beautiful mansion built in the mid-19th century by a prominent local businessman. Then head to the Lee-Fendall House, a family home that also housed Union soldiers, and complete the tour at the Lloyd House, where you'll learn all about Hanukkah. Each stop on the tour offers historically inspired bites and drinks, plus adult libations for purchase. Tickets are $5 for children and $25 for adults.
