Shadelands Ranch Museum: Historic Tour

February 5, 2013 | sack

The history of Walnut Creek is contained within the walls and grounds of Shadelands Ranch Museum. Built in 1904 by Hiram Penniman (1824-1907), considered one of the pioneers of Walnut Creek, the house and museum is open for tours Wednesdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., from mid-February to mid-November. And admission is reasonable at just $3 per adult and $1 per child ages 6-17. And children under six years old get in for free! Inside the redwood-framed house you will find many artifacts that tell the history of Contra Costa and Walnut Creek. The Sherwood Burgess Room is open on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for anyone who wants to research the history of the area. The beautiful grounds and gazebos are available to rent for a special event, and there are also scheduled events throughout the year.
