Chicks and Love: Flatbread Fantasia

You can always tell when restaurateurs are in it for the money or in it for the love of the food. Walnut Creek’s Chicks and Love are obviously the latter. The two founders saw a niche to be filled in the Bay Area and have ably done so, baking amazingly fresh flatbreads and pizzas with locally-grown ingredients that have regulars raving. Their motto is “Food fit for foodies,” which puts them in the very popular trend of high-quality meals served from a mobile kitchen. Regulars rave about the Farm Fresh Breakfast, which pairs fresh mozzarella, Parmesan cheese and locally-produced turkey sausage with a perfectly-cooked sunny side up egg. The eggs come fresh from area farms, giving them an incredible flavor that can’t be beat. One bite of this and you’ll have a new breakfast favorite. They also do a vegetarian version, as well as a great mushroom and garlic flatbread that is intensely flavorful. For dessert, locals rave about their signature strawberry shortcake.
