All in the Kiln: Fire Away
December 3, 2013 | sack
Do-it-yourself pottery shops have become a popular destination for budding artists. The equipment necessary to fire ceramic and clay at home is way too expensive, so places like All in the Kiln are great options. This family-owned business is dedicated to giving artists of all ages an opportunity to explore ceramic painting on a wide variety of objects, from simple things like dishes, bowls and mugs to more whimsical creations like piggy banks. Once you’ve purchased your piece, the staff will show you the copious amount of art supplies available to paint with. If you need help, they’ll gladly walk you through basic tools and techniques, using finished pieces to explain the effect. If you’re confident in your abilities, it’s not a problem to leave you alone. One of the only downsides is that it can take up to a week to get your final piece back from firing, so if you’re looking for instant gratification All in the Kiln might not be the place to find it.
