La Châtaigne Serves Authentic French Pastries in La Fiesta Square

In French, “la châtaigne” means “the chestnut tree.” In Lafayette, however, La Châtaigne is the name of the newest bakery in town. Located in La Fiesta Square, La Châtaigne specializes in authentic French breads and pastries, like croissants, brioche, boules and baguettes.
Michael Faircloth, the bakery’s owner, has been selling pastries at the Martinez and Orinda farmers markets for quite a while, and in December opened up his own retail spot. The space itself is cozy, with a small seating area inside, as well as a few tables on the front patio. Though it’s only been open for a few months, La Châtaigne has quickly drawn praise from social media commenters. Yelp reviewers particularly love the almond croissants, rosemary olive fougasse, and hazelnut noisettes.
Be aware that the shop is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so stock up on pastries over the weekend!
