Take a Hike or Plan a Picnic at the Lafayette Reservoir

March 29, 2019 | sack

The Lafayette Reservoir is a popular all-year, day-use area ideal for hiking, jogging, fishing, boating, and picnicking. Located right off of Highway 24, the park is widely popular and gets more than a million visitors per year. Check out the Rim and Lafayette Loop Trails, which feature a nice mixture of wooded and open areas. The outer loop is mostly exposed, while the inner loop is mostly wooded. The 7.4-mile trail winds along the grassy ridge of the reservoir and offers picturesque views of Mount Diablo.

Families, groups, and companies can reserve picnic areas holding 50 to 200 people with many including individual tables and barbecue grills. For those that enjoy fishing and boating, the reservoir is stocked with fish every year, such as trout, bluegill, black bass, black crappie, and several kinds of catfish. Rowboats and pedal boats can also be rented. The park is open daily including holidays, and parking is $7 for the day.
