Go Back in Time at the Historic Rheem Theater
May 11, 2016 | sack
The Rheem Theater was built in 1957 as an enormous one-screen movie house with 1,000 plush seats and a dramatic art deco style. Over the years the Rheem fell into disrepair, and eventually closed. In 2010, however, the California Independent Film Festival Association took over the Rheem, refurbished it and turned it into a hangout for movie buffs thorughout the area.
Today the striking neon and chrome façade at Rheem Theater once again advertises first run movies, classic and independent films and special events like film festivals and fan conventions. Movie lovers and local families alike love the Rheem for its easy parking, comfortable couch-style seating and beautiful lobby spaces jam-packed with movie memorabilia. If you're on a budget, you can even save a few bucks by heading to the movies on Tuesdays for deep discounts on tickets and concessions.
