If you're looking for a hike that's challenging but still accessible to beginning hikers, check out the Bear Creek Trail. This Lafayette area hiking trail is 4.3 miles long from start to finish, and most regulars say that it doesn't take long to complete.

The Bear Creek Trail runs along the south side of the Briones Reservoir, and it's filled with lush forests, water views, and relatively flat terrain. Visitors can start their hikes on either the Briones Dam side or the Briones Creek side, depending on where you're coming from. While this trail doesn't form a loop, most regulars say that they hike to a designated stopping point and then turn back, depending on the distance that you prefer.
