There are few things in this world as comforting as sitting down to a great Italian meal, and at Morucci’s Si Mangia Bene you’ll feel right at home. This place is widely regarded to be one of the best sandwich places in Walnut Creek, with a massive array of spectacular creations ready and waiting for you to dig in. Located on a winding road that’s somewhat difficult to find, this local favorite marches to the beat of a very different drum, with a perplexing menu system that has numbers like #00 and #6 ½. Some of the winners on the menu are the Popeye & Olive Oil, which blends sliced turkey with pesto, Provolone, spinach, artichoke hearts and Kalamata olives. Order it on the delicious house-made focaccia. The Prosciutto with tomato and mozzarella is also spectacular, as is the decadent, overflowing Reuben. The baked goods in the pastry case are competent, but you won’t have room for them anyway.
