4 Simple Tips for Organizing Your Closet

April 21, 2015 | sack

If you’ve been known to stuff your unworn clothes and shoes into a closet and then spend far too long rummaging around for something to wear, you may benefit from these simple tips for organizing your closet.

  • Get rid of unworn clothes. One of the most common reasons behind an overflowing closet is an excess of clothing. Take everything out — including shoes — and make a separate pile for unworn items to donate to local charities.
  • Store away out-of-season items. If it’s summer, you can make room in your closet by storing away winter coats, sweaters, and snow boots. The same goes for warm-weather items come wintertime.
  • Hang as many clothing items as possible. Even if your closet contains shelves, it’s best to hang as many items as possible in order to stay organized. Use shelves for things like shoes, hat, and bags.
  • Group by type of clothing. Hang all of your sweaters in one section, tees, and shirts in another section, and jeans on a bottom rack. You may even want to keep your most-worn items in the center of the closet for easy access.
