Take a Hike or a Picnic at Almaden Quicksilver County Park

June 22, 2016 | sack

Almaden Quicksilver County Park is known for its natural diversity, and that makes it a landmark in California history. This historic site was once a mining site for 135 years, and it's also the property where more than 1,800 miners and their families called home. Mining era relics were left behind, giving today’s visitors a chance to see past mining operations from the late 19th century.

Today, the park contains 4,152 acres, much of it occupying Capitancillos Ridge. In the spring, the park offers stunning wildflower displays for photographers and others who enjoy nature in bloom. Hikers will love the 34.2 miles of trails, and horseback riders can also enjoy 23 miles to trot along. All trails are open to dog owners as long as their pet is leashed for the duration of the walk. Want to take a break? Pack a cooler and rest at any of the benches for a nice picnic lunch.
