Milohas: One Thousand Layers of Flavor
June 13, 2017 | sack
Milohas was derived from the words for "mil hojas," or "one thousand layers." It's a fitting name for this restaurant and bakery in San Jose, whose staff crafts sweet and savory pastries with approximately one thousand flaky layers of goodness. They use time-tested family recipes from Colombian to create the noshes, the same recipes used by the owners' families for decades.
The owners brought their recipes to San Jose in the '80s, and they continue to dish out authentic Colombian fare to this day. Swing by Milohas on your way to work to grab one of the signature namesake puff pastries. The milhoja comes packed with sweet pastry cream and crowned with dulce de leche or arequipe. Customers also like the guava fingers, which are finger-like sweets stuffed with guava paste. If you're looking for lunch, order a few empanadas filled with beef, turkey, chicken, mushrooms and quinoa, or cheese.
