If you want to break the fast-food cycle, but still need something quick and easy, Souvlakis Greek Skewers just might be the thing you’re looking for. Owner Maria Vlahopouliotis took inspiration from her Yia Yia’s traditional Greek souvlaki when creating this hidden gem on the corner of West Alma and Minnesota Avenue in San Jose.

This place is popular, and when you arrive you may well find a line stretching toward the door. Don’t be concerned, however, as the staff has plenty of experience efficiently working through the crowds, and you’ll find yourself quickly moving toward the counter where you’ll place your order. Yelpers heap praise on the Greek salad, lemon salad, house-baked pita bread with spicy feta dip, and, of course, the gyro platter. Regulars say you should know that parking can be tricky; there is a private lot on the Minnesota Avenue side of the building, so check there first.
