Bring Your Kids to the 70th Annual Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade

What has become a longstanding tradition in Elm Grove began seven decades ago, Memorial Day 1947. It was the very first Memorial Day Flag Ceremony, and it wasn't exactly a parade. A unit of men march to the flag at St. Mary's in Elm Grove from the Legion, and behind them, local children trailed along riding their bikes. The same thing happened again next year when the unit set out to march on Memorial Day. This year, the 70th Annual Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade brings back the same community-centered experience, but with a twist.

In the present day, children spend time embellishing their bikes—often with patriotic accents—before following after the fire trucks and floats at the Memorial Day Parade. In fact, the kids who do the best job on their bikes receive prizes for their creativity. What's more, when the parade ends, there's time to enjoy kid-friendly activities in Elm Grove with your whole family. The parade kicks off at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 29th, but bikers should arrive at 9:30 a.m. so that they're ready for showtime.
