The Blue Hills Reservation: A Hiker’s Paradise
March 20, 2013 | greystar
Located just minutes from the stop and go traffic of downtown Boston, the Blue Hills Reservation offers a lush green sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of urban living. There are over 125 miles of hiking trails alone at this family-friendly destination, with 7,000 acres of greenery open to the public. The Great Blue Hill's summit is at 635 feet, a beautiful way for an experienced hiker to spend the day. But it's not all hiking. Camping reservations can be made at the Appalachian Mountain Club cabins on Ponkapoag Pond. Depending on the season, swimming, skiing, and pond fishing are great choices for activities at the Blue Hills Reservation. Mountain biking is allowed in designated areas, and there are many varieties of wildlife to enjoy while taking in the scenery. There are picnic areas with charcoal grills just waiting for you to finish off your day in the Blue Hills.
