Samuel Adams Brewery Tour: Brewer, Patriot, and a Darn Good Time

April 29, 2013 | greystar

Take a witty, interactive, and free tour of the place that launched America’s craft beer revolution. Sam Adams has become ubiquitous over the last three decades, so you might be surprised that the company’s original brewery is still so small. That’s because the staff hold themselves to a standard set by Sam’s friend Benjamin Franklin: “Beer is proof that God loves us, and wants us to be happy.”

Everything you’ll see on the tour—from the selection of barley and hops to the painstaking experimentation that results in new varieties of beer—testifies to the love and care that changed the taste of party time forever. Tours run every day except Sunday at approximate 45-minute intervals, on a first-come basis. They conclude with a tasting. It’s all free, but the brewery requests a voluntary $2 donation to charity. Friday and Saturday afternoons can get busy. There’s no bar to linger at, but the brewery runs a free trolley to Doyle’s, a friendly local watering hole that offers Sam Adams’ best.
