Go Meat-Free at These Vegetarian Eateries in Houston

Though the great state of Texas is known for its barbecue, Houston’s vegetarians enjoy a number of meat-free restaurants that would rival any steakhouse in depth of flavor. Check out these tasty vegetarian eateries that serve much more than just tofu!

Pepper Tree Veggie Cuisine
This casual, healthy Asian restaurant is the ideal place to pop in for a quick lunch. All of the food items are 100% vegan, and absolutely no MSG is used while cooking. The colorful salad bar offers a wide variety of unique items, and the lunch buffet includes almost 20 different foods ranging from hot soups to egg rolls. The dinner menu also offers a number of Asian-inspired dishes, including a vegan General Tso’s Chicken that regulars insist you’ll crave for days afterward.

Field of Greens
Field of Greens uses a macrobiotic approach to eating that revolves mainly around whole grains and fresh vegetables. While this may seem restrictive, the upscale restaurant’s meat-free dishes are bright, diverse, and always flavorful. The eatery’s interior is airy and full of plants, and the cozy cafe-style tables are ideal for an intimate dinner. The expansive menu includes vegetarian salads, pastas, and a wide variety of meat-free sandwiches. The vegan daily soup includes split pea and tomato basil, and the dessert menu offers chocolate tofu pie, vegan carrot cake, and even vegan cupcakes in a number of flavors.

A Day at the Ranch: Buckhorn Style

It’s time to plan that special party, day out, or annual gathering. You’re looking for something that works across age groups, something that allows for some wild fun but stays safe and contained. You seek a venue where you can relax too, leave the activities to others, and not have to fuss. Buckhorn Ranch and Lake may be your place!

New things are happening at this site, about twenty minutes from downtown Houston. Enjoy paddleboats on the lake or arrange a day of fishing (fish and release, only) for various perch, bass, and catfish. There are covered pavilions with playgrounds, volleyball, horseshoes, and traditional sports fields and equipment, and a swimming pool.  You’ll find moonwalks and entertainment by a chainsaw sculptor. Among the horses and other animals on this ranch is a giant Flemish rabbit, over a meter long and weighing over 16 pounds.

There are plenty of eating options, but how can you miss out on a yummy BBQ!?

Luigi’s Pizzeria: A Slice of Naples in Houston

Luigi’s Pizzeria is known as one of the best places to get thin crust pizza in Houston. Some would say the best place; it’s certainly a contender. Many people call Luigi’s pizza New York style because of its thin crust, but the rustic oblong pies belong to the Neopolitan tradition more than anything. A popular choice at Luigi’s is the Caprese pizza, appropriately Italian in its simplicity. Fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil are all you need to complement the chewy crust. The Supreme, with pepperoni, sausage, and veggies is also a favorite. The star here is the pizza but Luigi’s also offers a wide range of salads, sandwiches, pasta, and calzones. Be sure to end your meal with a refreshing gelato in a rotating variety of flavors.
