Crazy A’s offers these snow balls in a wide variety of fruity flavors, and you can even get them stuffed with ice cream for a richer, creamier taste. The menu also includes snow cones topped with sweetened condensed milk, or if you’re feeling daring you can get your snow cone stuffed and topped, but be warned: this is a truly decadent, delicious, and addictive option!

Crazy A’s New Orleans Style Snowballs is a cash-only operation, so be sure to hit the ATM before you visit. The shop is open 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. weekends.

Mainly Drinks: Cocktails and Tasty Cuisine in La Porte

Sure, it may be that La Porte's Mainly drinks makes visitors think that they serve, well, mainly drinks. But this local restaurant also offers a selection of refined New American cuisine that draws visitors for more than just the drinks.

On the menu, you'll find options like a Gourmet Cheese Plate with crostini, Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms in herb butter, or Smothered Cajun Fries with crawfish, shrimp & lobster. The place also serves dishes like a well-regarded Seafood Gumbo and a Warm Spinach Salad with warm bacon vinaigrette. Burgers, sandwiches, and flatbreads are also on the menu.

If a full entrée suits your appetite, you can feast on dishes like Pepita Crusted Chicken Fried Steak, Fish Tacos with green tomato salsa, Seafood Pasta with chipotle cream sauce, Blackened Red Snapper with mango relish, or Pan Seared Ribeye with chef’s sauce. Note that the menu changes periodically to highlight fresh ingredients.

La Madeleine French Bakery: A Webster Cafe

Though La Madeleine French Bakery is a chain restaurant, each location is charming and serves authentic French fare at affordable prices. The Webster location features a rustic decor that imitates the look of French country shops, complete with a bakery display counter stocked full of colorful, elaborately decorated desserts and pastries.

The lunch menu includes homemade soups and gourmet salads, as well as traditional French croque monsieur sandwiches. Dinner entrees consist of beef bourguignon, savory crepes, and Mediterranean pastas, as well as French fare specialties, like quiche Lorraine. Guests frequently sip brewed espresso drinks with their meals, and the decadent tarts and cakes are a welcome addition at the end of each dinner. If you want a traditional French cafe experience without leaving Texas, La Madeleine is a wonderful choice.

La Madeleine is open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The restaurant also offers take-out in addition to its sit-down dining.

As you might be able to infer from the name, this place specializes in bundt cakes, those distinctive ring-shaped treats that originate from northern Europe. In 1997, two long-time friends from Webster came together with the desire to start their own business. They realized that they had a real talent for baking and perfected a unique bundt cake recipe using the best available ingredients.

Some of the favorite offerings at Nothing Bundt Cakes include the lemon, which is refreshing and invigorating, as well as the comforting pumpkin spice. They’re famous for the rich frosted cream cheese petals that top every cake. You can get their cakes in a variety of sizes, from family-size desserts to cute little individual portions, and prices are very reasonable.

The Thai Seafood Restaurant, located not far from Plaza at San Jacinto in Webster, serves up fresh seafood cooked with the fragrant herbs and spices of Thai cuisine. The ambiance at this restaurant is charming and elegant and the service is attentive.

Start off with a steaming bowl of Tom Yum Soup, the satisfying melding of herbs, meat, fish and veggies that’s the perfect precursor to a delectable meal. Follow it up with some super-fresh fish cooked in a kaleidoscope of styles. Other authentic dishes of the region include Pad Thai, a yummy combination of noodles, veggies, peanuts and meat, and Pad Kee Mao – also known as Drunken Noodles – with rice noodles, egg, peppers and veggies, stewed in a fiery sauce.

Thai Seafood Restaurant is closed on Mondays, but open for lunch and dinner the rest of the week.

Party Safe: Tips for Serving a Safe Food Buffet

When you have a large group of people over for dinner, serving food buffet-style ensures that everyone gets exactly what they want. But how can you be sure that everything stays fresh, from appetizers to dessert? Here are a few tips for serving a safe food buffet.

  1. Buy foods at the proper temperature. Things like fried chicken, casseroles, and ice cream should be kept at the same temperature from the store to the buffet table, as changing their temperatures too much can cause food to spoil.
  2. Know the proper temperatures. Hot food should be kept between 140° and 165° Fahrenheit, while cold food should be kept at 40° Fahrenheit and lower.
  3. Don’t leave food out for longer than two hours. Be sure to include preparation and serving in your count.
  4. Use the proper tools. To ensure that food is kept at the proper temperature, use things like slow cookers, warming trays, and nesting dishes in bowls of ice. To prevent guests from mixing foods, make sure that you provide a separate spoon, spatula, or tongs in each dish. Also provide individual bowls for dips to discourage guests from double-dipping.
