Wine lovers from all over the state rave about League City’s Chelsea Wine Bar for its exceptional ambience and staggering selection. On your first visit, the prime thing you’ll notice is the bar’s great location. Overlooking picturesque Taylor Lake, the decoration is classy and European-inspired, with exposed wood, gorgeous wall murals, and intimate lighting.

When you open the menu, you’ll be met by over 150 hand-selected wines, sherries, and ports. The staff is incredibly conversant with the attributes of everything they serve, so they’re happy to describe a bottle before you open it. They also prepare homemade sangria every day, which regulars note is delicious. If you’re a beer lover, the bar offers a selection of 20 draft brews and 50 more in bottles. The kitchen makes tasty flatbread pizzas, cheese plates, and other small dishes. There’s live music three nights a week, a nightly happy hour and more fun events to enjoy, as well.

Options abound at Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside, a community space dedicated to getting League City residents outdoors and active, regardless of their chosen style of exercise. A slew of sporting fields and courts, each devoted to a different pastime, works toward this charge.

You don't have to have particularly good hand-eye coordination to work out at Lynn Gripon Park, though. You can also just go for a bike ride, run, or a hike on the winding trails that weave throughout the park. Or you can take a spin around the fitness course, lined with exercise equipment along the way. There's also a spot to launch your kayak or canoe if you prefer to spend your free time floating atop the water. With a playground for kids and picnic tables for everyone (plus restrooms), you should have no problem spending an entire day in the great outdoors at Lynn Gripon Park.

Indoor rock climbing is a popular sport among athletes who want to focus on upper body development in an exciting and unusual way. League City locals are lucky to have an excellent indoor gym for them to work on their grips: Space City Rock Climbing.

Space City offers 5,000 square feet of both bouldering and wall climbing, with courses fit for all skill levels. The routes are changed fairly regularly, so the courses won’t feel too repetitive for repeat visitors. They also have a small retail area where you can purchase shoes, chalk, and other supplies. You can buy a day pass or a punchcard, which lets you save money on multiple visits. Regulars know that it’s best to visit on weekdays, as weekends can get crowded with birthday parties and other events.

A weekly summer camp also draws a sizable number of participants.

Butler Longhorn Museum: Home to a Collection for the Record Books

The cattle industry is one of the most vital elements of Texas’s history, and one of the most interesting places to learn about it is at the Butler Longhorn Museum, which once served as the private residence of banker Walter Hall.

The longhorn cattle after which this place are named are iconic beasts of the Texas prairie, with huge horns projecting from their heads, and the Butler Longhorn Museum celebrates their lives in fascinating ways. The museum’s collection of horns is slated to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the largest in the world. In addition to the horns, the museum boasts many other interesting exhibits. The museum regularly displays artwork from League City-area creative people, and private events are booked in the facility.

The grounds of the museum are also very well maintained, and many visitors just enjoy wandering them on pleasant days.

Wind Down At Walnut Park in Webster

If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing day in the park, your search is over. Walnut Park is tucked away in the beautiful residential area of Webster. The park contains two playgrounds, a jogging track, a gazebo, and a small pavilion area with a few picnic tables. Among all of these amenities, locals tend to rave about the jogging track the most. This track is a soft asphalt material that differs from the ones you’ll find in any other park. Plus, there are many trees along the path so it provides plenty of shade for those warm summer days.

This is a small and quaint park, so there aren’t any restrooms or water fountains on-site. But as a perk, the park is rarely crowded! If you’re looking for a quiet day in a nice little neighborhood, this is the place to be.

Butler Longhorn Museum: A Unique Cultural Destination In League City

Nestled away in League City, the Butler Longhorn Museum opened in May of 2009, creating a unique cultural destination for locals and out-of-towners alike. As its name implies, the focus of this quirky museum is the documentation of Texas longhorn cattle. The museum tells the classic story of Milby Butler and how he helped save the Texas Longhorn from extinction, and the facility also houses a unique collection of western art and artifacts.

If you’re interested in learning any form of art, the Longhorn Museum hosts art classes for all ages and levels. Be sure to check the calendar for sign up dates; the classes are pretty popular and tend to fill up quickly. They also have local artists’ work on display and for sale at the museum.

Open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays, the Butler Longhorn Museum charges an admission fee of $10 for adults. Children 5 and under are admitted free!
