Main Street Pizzeria & Grille: BYOB to This Family-Owned Italian Fare Eatery

Based on the name alone, you might imagine that Main Street Pizzeria & Grille in Lansdale is your standard neighborhood pizza joint. You would not be entirely wrong in making that assumption, as the Sowhangar family’s restaurant makes a mean margherita pie in addition to cheese steaks, hoagies, and gyros.

But this Lansdale BYOB is also much more than your standard “pick-up or delivery?” place. The newly renovated dining rooms are decorated with murals from a local artist and tasteful centerpieces sit atop each table. The menu features traditional Italian fare favorites like veal saltimbocca and shrimp fra diavolo, which you can enjoy in the dining room, or you can invite 15 of your closest friends to join you in the restaurant's private dining room.

Sip a Beer Flight at Round Guys Brewing Company

Conveniently located just down the street from the Lansdale SEPTA station, Round Guys Brewing Company is the work of old friends Scott Rudich and Rich DiLiberto, who founded the business in 2012. Within months they began supplying beer to bars and taverns all over the region, and eventually opened their own brewpub in Lansdale.

The food menu offers inventive twists on standard pub fare (chicken dip, house-made chili, nachos, and sandwiches) but beer is the main attraction at this place. There are more than a dozen different options on tap, with alternatives ready in casks. Most of the beer will be Round Guys originals, like the popular "Kiss Off IPA," the crisp, fresh "Lansdale Lager," and the dessert-like "Uncle Ebeneezer" coffee-based stout, but there are always a few taps featuring beer from other craft brewers. Ask your bartender for a recommendation, or better yet, try a flight of beers to see what you like!

Umai Japanese Restaurant: Sushi Served With a Smile

While Umai Japanese Restaurant in Lansdale garners praise for its carefully prepared and beautifully presented sushi, sashimi, and maki rolls, it’s the service at this restaurant that draws the loudest cheers from locals. Chef Ray warmly greets each patron who enters the restaurant, and his welcoming attitude trickles down to the rest of the staff. The customers clearly appreciate this, and reciprocate this hospitality themselves—it has become unique tradition at this BYOB for customers to pour a drink for Chef Ray, who will happily enjoy a glass of wine at your table.

In an area that’s home to many sushi bars, Ray’s personality shines through on the menu, as well as in the dining room. Standout dishes include the thick, chewy udon lunch noodles, the high-quality fatty tuna, and the expertly spiced beef negimaki. The fried banana dessert is popular, too. Be apprised, however, that this place is popular, and unless you have a reservation, you may need to wait!

What’s Your Favorite Sushi Roll at Umai?

Tucked inside a shopping plaza just around the corner from the Pennbrook train station, Umai gives Lansdale locals a quality sushi bar at reasonable prices. When you walk in the front door of this charming BYO, you will be immediately greeted by Chef Ray and the sights and sounds of East Asian cuisine.

If you visit during your lunch hour you'll be able to select from the beautifully arranged bento-style lunch boxes (salmon teriyaki and tempura udon are favorites among regulars) or a selection of sushi combo platters. For dinner, Yelp reviewers recommend the warming miso soup, spicy tuna tacos, and the seared scallops served over horseradish. Sushi lovers will be glad to know that the capable wait staff is glad to guide you through more than 20 a la cart sushi options in order to build your own custom sushi feast.
