Creamy Meets Sweet in These 3 Tres Leches Cake Recipes
Whether you’re interested in the cuisine of Latin America or you’re simply searching for a unique dessert to try out, the traditional tres leches cake is a truly decadent option. Evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream fully saturate a delicious sponge cake base in this rich dish, and a fluffy whipped cream topping is the icing on the tres leches cake. Try out one of these three recipes at your next gathering.
Premium Tres Leches Cake [Betty Crocker]
This recipe from the Betty Crocker website recommends using a box of yellow cake mix to cut down on the prep time for your tres leches cake. The milk mixture is the same as the traditional recipe, which makes this the perfect choice if you want an authentic taste in a shorter amount of time.
Emeril Lagasse’s Tres Leches Cake [Food Network]
While this recipe from Emeril Lagasse takes longer to make than most cake recipes, it’s well worth the effort. The cake is made from scratch using only real ingredients, like whole milk and flavorful vanilla, and the decadent icing topping features subtle notes of mango and papaya for a tropical flavor.
Martha Stewart’s Tres Leches Cake [Martha Stewart]
This is a fairly simple, traditional tres leches cake recipe that incorporates the usual three milks to create a moist mouthful with each bite. Martha Stewart’s version also adds fresh fruit to the whipped cream topping to add a refreshing contrast to the cake’s rich flavor.
League Park: All Aboard
A train caboose might seem like an odd feature for a park, but it fits right in at League Park. After all, the community park resides right along the railroad tracks that once conveyed trains from Houston to Galveston, so the car pays homage to the rich history of the area. Climb inside and look around or let your littles ones do the exploring.
Then step back out into the shade of towering oak trees and feed the koi and turtles in the pretty pond or set up a picnic lunch in the gazebo. You can also head to the playground, which is equipped with everything you need to keep youngsters entertained on a sunny afternoon. Stay tuned for the local events held at League Park, too, such as movie nights, carnivals, expos, and even the occasional impromptu classic car show.

El Centinela Proves that Mexican Food Can Be a Balanced Breakfast
You might not immediately think of a Mexican restaurant for breakfast, but El Centinela wants to change that. The casual Mexican eatery on Highway 3 may look rather nondescript from the outside, a beige building with a few windows installed in the storefront, but inside awaits a colorful, spicy smorgasbord of breakfast fare.
In fact, most customers who've left Yelp reviews are so impressed by the morning grub that they specifically mention the caliber of the breakfast fare. The affordably priced fare ranges from a breakfast burrito filled with eggs, meat, beans, and cheese to the more extravagant supreme omelet. Its ingredient list starts out normally enough, with bacon, ham, cheese, onions, and potatoes, but the addition of beans and chunks of tender cactus make it a true treat in the morning. Huevos rancheros and migs con huevo (eggs with tomatoes) round out the breakfast menu.
You can also come to El Centinela for lunch or dinner, however. The Mexican food is just authentic later in the day. Dig into a set of the popular barbacoa tacos if you decide to dine after noon.

Job Hunting? Check Out These Cover Letter Writing Tips!
A cover letter isn’t always required when applying for a job, but it might just be the thing that sets you apart from equally qualified candidates. Here are a few smart ways to make yourself sound capable and well rounded in your cover letter.
- Think of a cover letter as its own entity. A cover letter is separate from your resume, so avoid repeating the same points that you’ve already made in your resume. Instead, focus on showcasing your unique voice, expressing your interest in the field, and highlighting your talents.
- Be succinct. A cover letter should be no longer than three paragraphs long and should take up approximately half of a page. Anything longer than that puts you at risk of losing the reader’s interest.
- Address no one. You should attempt to begin your letter with “Dear [Hiring Manager’s Name],” but if you don’t know the name of the person reading, simply jump right into the first paragraph to avoid sounding vague and impersonal.
- Include a strong closing sentence. Oftentimes, applicants find it very difficult to end a cover letter, so be sure to focus most of your energy on this part. Explain how your unique skills and experience make you a good candidate for the job, then quickly sign off to avoid rambling.

Main Event: From Laser Tag Arena to Indoor Ropes Course
Other bowling alleys, laser tag arenas, and mini golf courses can't hold a candle to Webster's Main Event, regulars say. That's because this family fun center doesn't just have one of these kid-friendly attractions—it has all of them. Bring along your entire brood and play a round of laser tag in Main Event's decked-out obstacle course, complete with secret passageways, glowing arches, and creeping fog. There's also a bowling alley, brought into the modern era by screens over the lanes and soft colored lighting.
Mini golf, karaoke, and arcade games are all available at Main Event, as well, but perhaps the most unique attraction? The Gravity Ropes. Perhaps more aptly described as an indoor ropes course, the Gravity Ropes give kids a chance to test their agility as they're hoisted aloft. The midair obstacle course features all necessary safety precautions, but that shouldn't detract from the thrill as you or your child scramble across rope bridges and climb various other structures.
