Ford’s Fish Shack: Like Dining at the Beach

Regulars say that the seafood is so fresh at Ford’s Fish Shack that it’s like dining at the beach. Must-try items are the Maine chips, which are hand-cut potato chips with lobster (it’s charmingly spelled “lobstah” on the menu) and melted blue cheese; the shrimp tacos; the calamari; and the crab cakes. For dessert, many patrons enjoy the blueberry pie and the banana pudding. Also, regulars tout the complimentary mini corn muffins and warm maple butter that servers bring out as you read the menu.

Ford’s has 12 beers on tap, including Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and Left Hand Milk Stout, plus many more in bottles and cans. It also offers a wide selection of red and white wines, as well as a few signature cocktails, including Ford’s Fantastic Lemonade (blueberry vodka and lemonade with mint and blueberries) and Felix’s Cadillac Margarita.

From the Greek isles to Ashburn, you'll find authentic Mediterranean cuisine at Opa Mezze Grill. The owner of this charming restaurant at the Ashburn Village shopping plaza made his mark in Greece as a top chef, and has continued making classic food right here.

Start out with one of Opa’s dips with warm pita chips while checking out the big menu of Greek sandwiches and entrees. (The gyros are always a good bet, but you also can’t go wrong with the vegetarian moussaka.) You can complement your meal with a beer or wine from the bar.

The V Eatery and Brew House: Trendy Food and Drinks

The V Eatery and Brew House, which opened in the fall of 2012, seeks to be more than just a bar/restaurant. With an outdoor dining area featuring fire pits and cabanas and a tented outdoor live music venue, Vibe, this spot has a trendy feel – a place to see and be seen. The craft beer selection (including Merry Monks and Left Hand Wake Up Dead on tap) and cocktail menu was created to complement the menu, which is best described as approachable with a twist. The butternut risotto is a popular item, as is the fall-off-the-bone pork chops with mustard sauce.

This Ashburn restaurant has happy hour from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through  Friday, which is calls Cocktails and Conversations, with food and drink specials. Some items include the chicken chipotle wrap, grilled cheese sandwich and bacon cheese fries, with $2 craft beers,  $4 select glasses of wine and specialty martinis for $5, including the spicy mangotini and the peach creepertini.

The V's hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday.

Paradise Indian Cuisine offers what might be the best lunchtime buffet in Herndon for a mere $10. Constantly restocked with fresh food, you choose from a wide selection of authentic, flavorful options that will always be there because the buffet doesn’t change. If you opt out of the buffet or dine for dinner instead, Paradise offers a big menu with plenty of vegetarian options along with a decent selection of meats. The portions are so large that you’ll have enough for next day’s lunch. Paradise specializes in biryani, which are tender meats marinated in exotic spices and then mixed with green peppers, ginger, and onion, added to perfectly seasoned Basmati rice, and finally steamed together. There’s often a short wait as it gets busy, especially during lunchtime. The atmosphere is relaxed with its dim lighting and televisions that play Bollywood music videos.
