Connect with Fellow Bookworms at the Ashburn Library

If you thought the library was just for getting books to read and to do research, then you have not been to the Ashburn Library. This facility offers activities for both children and adults. From preschool and musical story times to the adult book club and ESOL English conversation group, there is something for everyone. They also offer yoga, family movies, and family story time, as well as game time and a reading buddies program.

These programs are in addition to all of the books you can check out, the meeting rooms that are available for use, and the computers that have both Wi-Fi and printers that are free to use. There is not much that Ashburn Library does not have and if it is available elsewhere, a librarian will try and track it down and get it for you. That may be why many people say that libraries are the centers of learning, creativity, community building, and innovation for the digital age.

Herndon’s Local Talent Takes the Stage at the NextStop Theatre Company

When was the last time you went to the theater? No, not the local cinema—a live theater with professional stage actors! If you're like most, it's probably been some time. If that's the case, you should book tickets for an upcoming production at NextStop Theatre Company.

NexStop is a professional black-box theater tucked away inside a renovated warehouse structure. Here, the NextStop Theatre company practices and performs a number of stage productions the whole year round. In addition to scheduled performance events, educational programs are available for all ages. NextStop Theatre Adventures, for example, is a week-long program for kids to get their feet wet in drama. Improv workshops, audition techniques, and stage acting classes are open to adults.

The Sugarland Run Stream Valley Trail: A Quick Escape to the Great Outdoors

Take your morning or evening runs to the Sugarland Run Stream Valley Trail, a beautiful escape from stresses of everyday life.

The Sugarland Run Stream Valley Trail is a small part of a larger trail system throughout Fairfax County. This trail is approximately 3 miles long with roughly the same distance in auxiliary trails. While these paths are paved, too, what you're getting is a beautiful view of the local flora and fauna with some stream crossings, as well.

This trail is perfect for a nice stroll or jog. You could even bike or take your dog along for a peaceful walk. If you're environmentally conscious, consider bringing along a bag and some gloves to help keep the path clear of trash. Everyone should be able to enjoy this beautiful path that's so close to home.

Pick Your Own Blueberries at Eagletree Farm

Eagletree Farm may be best known as the place to pick strawberries in June, but it also churns out barrels of sweet, fruity wines. You can come to the farm to buy a bottle, or check them out at McKeever's Pub in McLean. The nearby restaurant offers up glasses of the Tannat, which comes in a dark rouge hue and tastes of black cherry. whereas the white Viognier trends more toward cool and crisp, slightly acidic and full of sweet, fruity undertones.

If you're just in it for the blueberry picking, though, head to Eagletree Farm in June or July (when blueberries are perfectly purple and plump). You won't be slowed down by or overcharged for any gimmicks or extras here. It's solely a blueberry patch where you and your friends or family can run around, plucking fresh blueberries right from their stems. By the time you leave, you'll probably have enough fruit to make a few batches of blueberry pancakes or a blueberry-flecked coffee cake.

Learn How to Embrace the Flow of Life at Flow Yoga

"When life is good, it flows, go with it." This is the mantra at Flow Yoga in Leesburg, and if the many glowing student reviews are any indication, it's working for the local yoga studio. Between its huge schedule (90-plus classes every week) and talented instructors who are willing to work with anyone, Flow Yoga creates a comfortable space to practice for everyone.

If you're new to the practice, start with a Basics class. Your teacher will help you master the foundational poses of Vinyasa, paying close attention to your alignment and breath in a room heated to 85 degrees. Once you have a few basics class under your belt, feel free to explore the more challenging sessions on tap at Flow Yoga. There's Flow 1, which unfolds in a warmer room (about 90 or 95 degrees) and moves at a faster clip, as well as Slow Flow, a good starter class given its leisurely pace. Specialty classes like Yoga Sculpt and Yoga for Runners often pop up throughout the week, to, so keep your eyes peeled.
