International Balloon Museum: Learn About the History of Hot Air Ballooning

After your first visit, Albuquerque’s International Balloon Museum will quickly top the list of most unique museums you’ve ever toured. This fascinating museum is dedicated to the history of hot air ballooning, and you’ll be amazed at just how rich with history this topic is. Every part of the building is architecturally beautiful and intricately decorated with colorful dioramas lining the floors, giant balloons suspended from the glass ceilings, and a majestic, curved entryway at the museum’s front. Hands-on exhibits enable visitors to get up close and personal with a real hot air balloon, and although the museum is fairly small, there are so many other exhibits that it will take a good three hours to experience them all.

The International Balloon Museum is also the site of much of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, one of the city’s most popular annual events. For a full event schedule, visit the museum’s website.

Farm & Table: Local Food Worthy of a Special Occasion

Celebrating an anniversary? Maybe a special birthday? Or looking to change things up for date night? Farm & Table is the place to go. Yelp reviewers call this restaurant “an occasion type of place.” Here, diners dress up in anticipation of a fine dining experience in a relaxed, rustic atmosphere.

More than 80 percent of the menu is local, featuring seasonal food from the restaurant’s on-site farm as well as nearby farmers and ranchers. Portion sizes may be smaller than expected, according to reviewers, but the dishes are packed with fresh, sharp, and sultry flavors. For the best experience, ask to be seated on the patio to watch the sun set over the farm. Farm & Table is often crowded, so plan to make reservations.

Farm & Table is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Humorous and Exciting NPR Game Shows

NPR is full of fascinating programs, but none are quite as much fun as its hands-on game shows. With a variety of different topics and styles of questions, these trivia programs are just as much fun to play along with at home as they are for the folks in the studio. Here are two of NPR’s best game shows.

Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!
This hour-long weekly quiz show features some of the most prominent people in the worlds of news and entertainment who are often experts in their chosen fields. Playwright and actor Peter Sagal hosts, and a different panel of three journalists or comedians are chosen to participate each week. Listener contestants play a variety of different games against the panelists, though the odds are usually slightly swayed in the listener’s favor.

Ask Me Another
Ask Me Another, one of NPR’s newest game shows, is filmed in front of a live studio audience and broadcasted on NPR radio stations and online. The show is equal parts pub trivia, brainteasers, puzzles, comedy and music, creating a rambunctious hour of game show fun. The contestants are a combination of listeners, audience members, and special mystery guests, and the questions are tricky because they’re tailored specifically toward the contestant.

Skidmore’s Holiday Bowl: Bowl, Dine and Dance in Albuquerque

Your experience at Holiday Bowl will depend on what day you visit. There is open bowling all day, every day, while Karaoke Night takes place on Thursday evenings (be prepared for crowds and college students!). Make a reservation to secure a lane for the alley's popular black light bowling experience, Galactic Bowl, which is held on weekend evenings. After hitting down a few pins, refuel at the 300 Club Grill, the alley's on-site restaurant, then sip a martini at Vodka Venue, Holiday Bowl's full service bar specializing in vodka cocktails.
