Take Your Fitness to New Heights at Stone Age Rock Climbing Gym

Gear up for a high-adventure climb at Stone Age Climbing Gym, Albuquerque's premier spot for indoor rock climbing. Stone Age first opened to the public in 1997 with just 4,000 square feet. After an expansion in 2004, the gym doubled in size to include locker rooms, party spaces, and more. A little more than 10 years later, Stone Age boasts 23,000 square feet of floor space and 21,000 square feet of climbing walls.

The gym is open to climbers of all ages. Those under 18 will need a parent or legal guardian to sign a waiver on their behalf, and those under 14 will require parental supervision while they climb. Youth programs and climbing schools are available to show you and little ones the ropes.

Catch a Show at the Historic KiMo Theatre in Albuquerque

No plans for the weekend? Why not grab a bite to eat downtown, then catch a show at the KiMo Theatre? The KiMo is probably unlike any theater you've seen before. From the outside-in, this cinema and performing arts venue is decorated with authentic Pueblo-Deco, which is really quite something to look at. The theater dates back to the 1920s, but it has been restored and upgraded to beautiful results. You'll feel the history when you walk in the door.

Beyond the scenery in the architecture, you'll find something to appreciate about the entertainment hosted at the KiMo. Indian Pueblo Cultural Center: Experience Native American Culture First-Hand

New Mexico is steeped in tradition and cultural influence of the Native American Pueblo. No place honors the traditions and culture of those people more than the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in North Valley Albuquerque.

The cultural center is home to an amazing collection of Native American art and pottery. Original pieces and works of craftsmanship of the 19 Pueblos line the halls of this museum. Throws, sculpture, and more can be seen in addition to informational plaques noting the significance of these works to Pueblo culture. A miniature theater is located near the main exhibit, which shows short movies about the lives of two female Pueblo potters. Visitors on the weekends will enjoy live performances of traditional dances.

There is a cafe open at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center as well that serves delicious food and drinks. Admission is modest considering all dances, events, and exhibits come with the price of a ticket. Adults will pay just $8 (just $3 as a resident of New Mexico) while kids and students pay just $2.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side at the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo

Take a walk on the natural side of life at the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo. A day at the zoo is a great way to get away from the metro life and enjoy the world's creatures.

The BioPark Zoo is small, but clean and full of wonderful wildlife. Despite the size, plan on spending a majority of your day here. Five hours in the park will allow you comfortably see the entire venue and maybe grab a bite to eat as well. Kids will love the exhibits and viewing areas that allow them to get up close with exotic critters like birds and large mammals. There are polar bears, large cats, giraffes, and primates too see with peacocks roaming around the zoo with the rest of the BioPark patrons. The Botanic Garden and Aquarium are must-visits.

Classes and camps are available for more in-depth looks at the wildlife of our world. Aquarium overnight stays are awesome ways to spend the night surrounded by sharks! Register for these types of events on the website.

Immerse Yourself in New Mexico’s Incredible Natural World at Rio Grande Nature Center State Park

Whether you’re looking for a fun and educational place to take the little ones or a way to get closer to nature yourself, the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park is one of the most incredible natural areas in all of Albuquerque. Here, visitors can learn about the area’s unique plant life, native animals, rare birds, and much more. Admission is free if you simply want to wander the paths by bike or foot, while parking is available on site for a small fee that benefits the park’s maintenance.

Once inside, you’ll likely run into animals like lizards, turtles, frogs, and even the occasional coyote (from a distance, that is). Venture into the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park’s impressive library and you’ll find a small gift shop, as well as one of the most impressive views in the whole city.
