Keep Your Eyes Peeled for Pelicans at Lake Casa Blanca International State Park

July 5, 2016 | capstone

Did you know that the area around Lake Casa Blanca International State Park shows evidence of human activity that dates back 3,000 years? That's according to the website of this 525-acre state park, which is located right near the border of Texas and Mexico.

Nowadays, the park offers ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, from mountain biking and hiking to camping and picnicking. Lake Casa Blanca is the real star of the show here, however. This 1,680-acre lake is a popular destination for water skiing, swimming, boating, and fishing. Anglers are likely to reel in bass, catfish, and stripers, while birdwatchers should keep their eyes peeled for the lake's feathered denizens: blue herons, egrets, and pelicans, to name a few.

Open daily year-round, Lake Casa Blanca International State Park charges an entrance fee of $4 per adult. Children 12 and under are admitted free!
