Sip Boba Tea at Tea Rex
December 2, 2014 | sack
One of the more interesting beverage trends of the last few decades is boba tea, which was invented in Taiwan in the 1980s. Pairing cold tea with large, chewy balls made from tapioca starch, it's refreshing and tasty once you get used to the unusual mouthfeel of the tapioca bubbles.
The owners of Tea Rex in Rohnert Park were dissatisfied with the boba tea cafes in their area, so they decided to create their own. At first glance, the sheer variety of drinks on offer here can seem overwhelming, but the counter staff are happy to help you find the perfect flavor combination. For a little bit of a caffeine kick, try the green iced tea with tapioca. It’s not as potent as a cup of coffee, but it goes down a lot smoother. If you want something a little sweeter, try a taro slush with jasmine and honey. Tea Rex’s cafe also serves a selection of Asian pastries—the Thai tea waffle is a favorite. It has a subtle green tea flavor with hints of coconut.
