Sonoma County Distilling Company: Watch Whiskey Makers at Work

January 13, 2016 | sack

From mashing and fermenting the grains to distilling them into whiskey in a copper alembic pot licked by flames, the staff at Sonoma County Distilling Company believes that in order to do the whiskey-making process perfectly, they must do it entirely themselves. So that's exactly what they do within the walls of the Sonoma County Distilling Company, just one mile away from Crossbrook. And since they offer frequent tours, you can watch while they work.

Every Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., you can come by and tour the distillery. You'll actually get to see the whiskey makers working on the grains, starting with the mashing, and putting the whiskey into oak barrels until it ages enough to be bottled and labeled. Reserve your spot on a tour online before you show up. You can also come to the tasting room and sip on a few of the resulting whiskeys. It's open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, no appointment necessary.
