Luckily for folks in Rohnert Park, Tonayan has been serving up exemplary takes on the Sonoran-style Mexican border cuisine for quite some time now. The husband and wife team behind this restaurant, Isidro and Laura Velasco, are a constant presence here, and you’ll often see their son Carlos working as well.

The menu is extensive, but regulars in the know will say that the real standout dishes are the Sonoran ones with an emphasis on flour tortillas and shredded beef, as well as simple tomato-based hot sauces. Not sure what to pick? Bring some friends and order the El Jefe plate to try a burrito, taco, enchilada, chile relleno, and grilled steak. To add to your meal, there’s a full bar with a range of wines and beers, not to mention micheladas and margaritas.
