Discover Sonoran-Style Mexican Fare at Tonayan
May 17, 2019 | sack
Tonayan is a Nahuatl Aztec word that roughly translates to "place of the dawn." But for folks in Rohnert Park, Tonayan is one of the most popular places to get Mexican food in the North Bay.
Serving Sonoran-style cuisine centering on simple and hearty dishes, Tonayan has a reputation for consistently delivering satisfying meals in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Owner and head chef Isidro Velasco is always around — if not in the kitchen, then helping to make margaritas behind the bar or chatting with regular customers in the dining room. House specialties include the “Carlos Special,” which is a Sonoran spin on chicken parmigiana, the Chile Colorado, which consists of beef in red sauce, and the Camarones a la Diabla, a dish featuring shrimp and mushroom sauce. Feeling hungry? Try the Tonayan Plate, which includes a burrito, enchilada, taco, and chile relleno, all on one plate. Take-out, delivery, and catering are all available.
