Sip on Something Exotic at Kung Fu Tea

February 15, 2017 9:04 am

Strawberry-lemon green tea. Oreo milk tea. Taro slushies. These are just a few of the exotic options that await at Kung Fu Tea, a specialty shop in Austin that's dedicated to Taiwanese bubble tea. Although the team takes some liberties and adds contemporary touches to the teas, they're all inspired by the authentic creations that founders Michael, Allen, and Ray encountered when they actually traveled to Taiwan in 2009.

If it's a classic type of tea that you're craving, order the honey green tea, the KF oolong tea, or the winter melon green tea. For something creamier and more substantial, you can't go wrong with a sweet, decadent milk tea such as the coconut milk tea, the Oreo milk tea, or the almond milk tea. Honey lemonade punch, mango slushies, and even yogurt-infused green tea are also on the menu at Kung Fu Tea, a unique spot in Austin that you should definitely check out.

A more inventive restaurant—regarding both the menu items and the space—than Boiler Nine may not exist. The nearby eatery (it’s just four miles from Elan East) is located inside the refurbished Seaholm Power Plant and spans three floors of sun-soaked space. The chefs are known to craft some of the finest wood-fired fare in the area—just try the roasted chicken, the pork chops, or the grilled brisket. In addition to meaty plates, a solid selection of veggie-centric dishes are available too. Veggie options range from pickled and grilled okra to sweet potato and coconut tartare.

Note that the menus change frequently to keep up with available food from local farms and food purveyors, but guests can always expect the freshest ingredients at this nearby restaurant. As far as drinks, the bartenders carefully pour curated cocktails from an impressive drink menu. Beyond cocktails, beer and wine is also available for purchase.
