Burn Pizza and Bar: Perfectly Charred Pies

November 11, 2015 1:01 pm

A true Roman pizza sports intentionally blackened edges; just slightly charred because of the extremely thin crust. The pizza dough's three-day round of fermentation, which utilizes only a small amount of yeast, also contributes to the crispy edges. At Burn Pizza and Bar, that's exactly the level of char you can expect to ring any pie you order.

The unique pizzeria debuted just a few weeks ago about two miles from Elan East, bringing a piece of the Old World to modern Austin. Devour slices of the classic margherita pizza with just mozzarella, tomato, and basil, or opt for something more creative, such as the Clive. This pie features ndjua (a type of sausage spread) with fontina and mozzarella cheese, plus a drizzle of truffle oil. There are also other authentic Italian eats on the menu, such as lasagna, penne carbonara, and pappardelle with wild boar sausage. Have you tried Burn's pizza yet?

Due East Celebrates the City’s Art Scene This Thursday!

November 3, 2015 2:41 pm

Art aficionados should head to this Thursday’s Due East event, a popular happening that serves as the precursor to the two-weekend-long East Austin Studio Tour, scheduled for Nov. 14-15 and 21-22.

From 7 to 10 p.m. this Thursday, Nov. 5, guests get a sneak peek of some of the works by the more than 300 artists who'll be participating in the studio tours later this month while sipping cocktails and noshing food from vendors like Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Austin Eastciders, Lick Ice Cream, and La Condesa.

Guests of this week’s event will also be among the first to check out the EAST group exhibition. Live performances round out the evening along with a silent auction featuring cool takeaways from local businesses.

Tickets are required for entry to Thursday's kickoff event and for the studio tours later this month. Since it's all taking place about two miles from Elan East, it's worth checking out!
