Travel Etiquette Tips Every Jetsetter Should Know

When you’re planning a big trip, you likely think about what to pack, what travel arrangements to make, and which sights to see once you arrive at your destination. But do you ever think about travel etiquette? Proper etiquette on airplanes or buses is something that most people don’t think about until they’re faced with an awkward situation. Avoid uncomfortable run-ins with fellow passengers with these smart tips:

  1. Start in the gate area. At the airport, try to take up as little space as possible in the gate area. Don’t leave bags or other luggage on empty seats, as these places often get very crowded.
  2. Stick with your zone. Although it might be tempting to board your plane early, boarding zones are created for a reason: to keep things running smoothly and efficiently.
  3. Recline kindly. Before you jolt your seat backward and hit another passenger’s knees or jostle his or her computer, simply turn around and ask if it’s okay.
  4. Don’t rush off the plane or bus. Even if you’re in a hurry, it’s important to let the seats ahead of you exit the plane first.
  5. Navigate the airport or subway station like a highway. This means always stay to the right while walking. If you’re on a moving walkway, walkers should stay to the left, standers on the right.

Edit Your Coffee Table Display to Include These 3 Items

One of the main focal points in every living room, coffee tables can walk a fine line between perfectly styled and cluttered mess. To help ensure your coffee table is making the right statement, limit your display to include these three design pro-approved elements.

1) Books and trays
Oversized hardcover books work best here, as they help create the foundation for your display while also providing something for guests to page through. Similarly, decorative trays add to your display's bottom layer and provide a platform for collectibles.

2) Natural shapes and textures
Think potted plants, pebbles, or a floral arrangement. The organic feel of these items will help offset sharp corners and chrome finishes while providing a pop of color. Don't forget the candles!

3) Personal collectibles.
Prevent your display from becoming generic by spotlighting a few of your favorite collectibles, whether they be quirky or chic. The goal is to incite conversation among your guests.

Free Ways To Create A More Organized Work Space

If your desk is a source of stress, it's time for a change. Your work space should help your job, not hinder it! Below are some free ways to create a more organized desk and workspace:

  1. Cut back on your supplies: Over time, it's easy to accumulate way too many pens, pencils, highlighters, paper clips, and rubber bands. So, edit it down — keep the few things that you like and use, and give the rest away!

  2. Make a digital file cabinet: If your file drawer is overflowing, consider moving some of those items into a "digital file". Shred the items that you honestly don't need, and scan and save on your computer any paperwork that you need, but don't need a hard copy of. Also, be sure to back up this file to an external hard drive or to a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox.

  3. Stop all unsolicited mail: Junk mail can be a huge problem, and take up lots of space. If this is something that you're dealing with, the Federal Trade Commission has put together a list of ways you can stop most unsolicited mail that comes your way. Also, you can call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-567-8688) or visit optoutprescreen.com, to stop all credit card and insurance offers for five years.
