Celebrate Baseball Season with the Round Rock Express

There might be no better way to celebrate summer than a night of America’s favorite past-time. Come watch the Texas Rangers’ AAA baseball affiliate, the Round Rock Express light up the Dell Diamond. Cheering on the Express is affordable family fun, with lots of entertainment for kids including a basketball court and rock wall. Between innings they have fun contests and entertainment. The best deal is lawn seating on the outfield “berm” as fans call it. Bring a blanket and enjoy the game from a unique vantage point.  Fridays are an especially popular evening, at the end of the game fireworks light up the sky.  Check their website for other promotions and packages, and be sure to reserve tickets in advance for popular games.

With over 50 beers on tap, Westside Alehouse boasts what might be the largest selection of local beers on tap in Round Rock. Their many beer flights are a great way to try new beers and the bar menu features many fusions beyond the traditional “black and tan” – try the “Belgian Brunette” a mix of Guinness and Stella Artois. Pitchers and “tubes” make Westside Alehouse a great place to gather a group of friends and watch the game on one of their many TVs. The bar also offers a nice selection of cocktails that feature unique flavor combinations, like the cucumber-basil collins. The small menu features American pub food, and many customers agree they do fried food best. The onion rings and sweet potato fries are popular options for snacking. If you work in the area, Westside Alehouse has a lunch specials menu on weekdays – most options are under $7 for an entree and iced tea. High quality ingredients – like Ghiradelli chocolate syrups – are used in their beverages, and the prices are very affordable. Try the Zebra Mocha with both white and dark chocolate and is topped with their house-made chocolate whipped cream. Dazzle's drinks come with oompf: large drinks have three shots of espresso, instead of the industry standard two, and you can get a smoothie blended with Red Bull if you want the caffeine but not the coffee. Fresh Seafood and Cold Drafts at Deckhand Oyster Bar

Next time you want to go out to watch the big game, consider Deckhand Oyster Bar in Round Rock. This casual bar is a great place to kick back with a pitcher of beer and a group of friends.  The menu features fresh, casual seafood favorites like fried catfish and crawfish poboys.  Oysters are shucked in front of you, and served on the half shell.  Regulars love the gumbo!  There are several Asian items on the menu too – like tom yum soup, a sweet and sour seafood soup with a little kick. If you order oysters, try the thai sauce, which is a unique complement to their mild flavor. Prices are reasonable and get even lower during happy hour from 3-6 p.m.  The Deckhand serves beer in frosted mugs, but don’t expect craft brews – it’s mostly American favorites. The Thai Tea is a tasty non-alcoholic alternative.

Round Rock Donuts: Not Just Donuts

Since 1926, Round Rock Donuts has been a Texas tradition with their famous golden doughy delights. Their signature donut — glazed, warm and Texas-sized — has been featured on national TV food shows. Other donut options are simple and traditional — don’t expect any fancy flavors or sprinkles. In addition to the glazed, cake, and cream filled donuts, the bakery also offers a variety of other baked goods like danishes, fritters, muffins and coffee cakes.  Customers rave about the cream filled eclairs. And though Round Rock Donuts is a famous area landmark, it hasn’t gone to their heads — everything is reasonably priced and the lobby has a homey feel with stone walls and wood paneling. 

In a hurry or don't want to be tempted? Use the drive-thru. Round Rock Donuts also creates custom cakes for birthdays, graduations, weddings and other special occasions.
