Local Fare at Chow in Lafayette, California
September 23, 2014 | sack
Chow's founders were way ahead of the farm-to-table trend when they debuted the flagship eatery in San Francisco in 1997. Their approach was simple: to source organic ingredients locally and mold them into fusion dishes. That central philosophy remains the driving force behind four Chow locations today, including the one in Lafayette.
The menu changes frequently to make use of the free-range poultry and organic produce that's available around Lafayette each season, but you'll always find dishes that showcase wild seafood and all-natural pork and beef. From entrees such as Thai-cuisine-style organic chicken salad to thin-crust pizza to char-grilled flank steak and seared local fish, the dinner menu encapsulates a wide array of flavors no matter the time of year. Many guests come for the sweets served after dinner, though, which are baked freshly at Chow in Danville every day; try the ginger cake if it's available, and wash it down with a locally crafted wine or beer.
Chow in Lafayette also boasts a market where you can buy the produce that chefs use in the kitchen and the baked goods served in the dining room. A wine shop on-site, meanwhile, sells bottles of wine that are sourced from local, small-batch wineries.
