Beer Reigns at Black Sheep Lodge

South Austin's Black Sheep Lodge offers for good pub food, fun atmosphere, and cheap drinks.  There are bar specials every night of the week — including $2 cans like Lone Star and PBR tallboys on Friday and Saturday. You can catch the game on Sunday on one of their 20 TVs, while enjoying $2 off pitchers with friends. There are 26 beers on tap and over 100 bottles to choose from. Although beer is the heart of this establishment, don’t overlook the food — the menu features burgers and sandwiches with better taste and cheaper prices than most pub grub. Regulars love the “Little Stinkers Sliders” — garlic and beef patties topped with gorgonzola butter and mixed greens. If you’re in the mood to snack, the cheese curds are highly recommended, as are the fried pickles. The large outdoor patio is dog friendly.

Four Great Political Documentaries

In an election year, it’s always a good idea to look back at past events to guide us in our future decisions. These four films tell stories of political events that we can still learn from today.

Feed
Cobbled together from footage filmed just before and after candidates in the 1992 presidential election went on the air, this often funny documentary lays bare the very human personalities that emerge when candidates think no one is watching.

The Fog of War
Using his distinctive documentary style, Errol Morris coaxes 85 year old Robert McNamara to give an interview for the ages, giving a surprisingly frank account of his time as Secretary of State during the Vietnam War.

Street Fight
A mayoral race in Trenton, New Jersey sets the stage for a gripping tale of a young, idealistic candidate going up against a seasoned political machine.

Please Vote for Me
In 2007, a class of third graders in China held the country’s first democratic school election, for the position of class monitor. The film provides a glimpse into Chinese society and the very nature of democracy.

Low Sodium Cooking: 4 Great Tips To Add Flavor, Not Salt

If you suffer from high blood pressure, or are just trying to get healthier by cutting back on your salt intake, check out these great tips for low sodium cooking from WebMD. Try incorporating them into your diet, and you'll feel better in no time!

  • Stick with real food. Processed stuff often stays good by (surprise!) incorporating lots of extra salt as a preservative. It's often healthier to stick with homemade recipes than to use stuff from boxes, cans, or jars.
  • Ignore some directions! When you're prompted to add salt to a recipe, season with another spice instead, such as cumin or garlic.
  • Watch your butter! Sure, salted butter tastes great on its own, but in some recipes you won't notice much difference if you substitute unsalted butter.
  • Avoid additives like MSG, baking soda, and sodium benzoate. They're all sodium compounds, with similar effects as salt.

You can read more by visiting WebMD's page on Low Sodium Recipe Tips!

All the food is made to order, but you can enjoy a book, magazine, or game from their shelves while you wait.  There is nice outdoor seating — and bring Fido along, Bouldin Creek is dog friendly.
