Don’t Miss the Fried Chicken and Waffles at The Kitchen

When owner Stephen Henderson originally opened The Kitchen, the restaurant only had 20 seats. The demand for the eatery's excellent food quickly outgrew their ability to serve customers, and after just two years in business, The Kitchen moved to a new space, with fantastic results.

When you walk in, you’ll be dazzled by the stylish decor, which includes a bronzed tin ceiling, crystal chandeliers, and a leaf-patterned wallpaper that’s stunning. But all this plays second fiddle to the food, which regulars report is out of this world. After you place your order, the chef will send out an amuse-bouche to tantalize your palate. Some of the prime dishes that diners rave about include the dark, flavorful lobster bisque and the grilled veal rib chop with a Gruyere popover. The place’s signature dish, the fried chicken and waffles with buttermilk gravy, is sure to inspire repeat visits to this Englewood eatery.

Zoe’s Cupcake Cafe: Sweet Charity

To many people paradise would involve cupcakes. Thankfully for them there’s Zoe’s Cupcake Cafe, where the already scrumptious cupcake gets a redo thanks to the fabulous bakers at Zoe’s. Of course Zoe’s specializes in cupcakes. With flavors like red velvet, chocolate chip with caramel icing, or the traditional chocolate on vanilla concoction you will fall in love with Zoe’s decadent cupcakes. In addition to cupcakes and cookies Zoe’s also has quite a few daily specials, including ginger bread, smores, and espresso spiked with Nutella. Not only are the baked goods from Zoe’s delicious, all of the proceeds from the business goes to various local charities. Thanks to a grant from Women United in Philanthropy, Zoe’s was able to get off the ground and become a part of the community. It gives burgeoning bakers the opportunity to be creative while also learning the basics of running a thriving business. Never has charity been quite this sweet.
