Alamo Drafthouse Cinema: Grab a Pint with Your Picture

November 25, 2014 1:56 pm

Tim and Karrie League started simply, by repurposing an old parking garage into a movie theater using only their hard-working hands a bit of creativity. They dubbed it the Alamo Drafthouse, and started showing second-run movies on its single screen while they served beer and food to their patrons. It wasn't long before their modest endeavor starting garnering buzz in Austin, from legends like Richard Linklater, Harry Knowles, and even Quentin Tarantino, who hosted marathon screenings of his personal movie collections there.

Today, that first theater has expanded to include a few other locations, including one near Retreat at Cross Mountain in San Antonio. The offerings have expanded, as well. Now in addition to first-run features, the Alamo Drafthouse also shows lesser known, classic, independent, and international films. Their list of beers encompasses many local brewers, and the serving process has been streamlined to minimize distractions during the film. In addition to beer, the theater also serves burgers, wraps, snacks, and dessert.

Visit the Alamo Drafthouse website to learn more about this unique movie theater!

Italian Fare Staples Are Served at Milano

November 18, 2014 2:14 pm

Milano has been one of San Antonio’s most popular Italian restaurants for more than 22 years. Locals say the food is delicious, the portions are generous and the staff is friendly and attentive. Milano’s casual-but-refined ambiance makes this restaurant the perfect choice for a romantic evening, a family outing or a celebration with friends. Regulars recommend the chicken cannelloni, the baked ziti and the linguini carbonara. Most customers go with the daily special, which they say is always delicious. Previous specials have included chicken picatta, chicken Napolitano, sea bass and Colorado rack of lamb.

The only complaint most customers have about Milano is its limited dessert menu. The owner, Talal Hajali, welcomes many customers personally, and goes out of his way to make every diner feel at home. Enjoy a drink with your meal from Milano’s fully stocked bar.

Milano is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
