Mary Jo Peckham Park: A Beautiful Katy Park

Spend a nice day enjoying the weather at Mary Jo Peckham Park. This wonderful park in Katy is a great spot to bring the kids to work off some energy on the playground complete with swings and some bouncy toys. Get some exercise with a jog around the lake on the trails or just enjoy the scenic view while feeding the ducks. One trail is designated for running and one is for walking. Harris county residents can use the gym for free. The gym has a mix of machines, cardio equipment, and workout classes. There is also an indoor pool, sports fields, gazebo, fishing pier, and mini golf course. Feel free to bring your lunch to the picnic area. If you want to have an outdoor cookout just call to reserve the pavilion with grills. Mary Jo Peckham Park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Flying Saucer: A Sugar Land Gastropub

This UFO touched down in Sugar Land's Town Square shopping complex and quickly won over a host of loyal fans. Hundreds of beers on tap, a tasty selection of pub food, friendly waitstaff and a fun, festive atmosphere makes it a great place to hang out with friends. If you just need a bit of a nosh to go with your brew, you can scoop up some Nachos Grande, Quesadillas, Hot Wings or Hummus & Pita. Heartier appetites will want to pick something from the plentiful roster of sandwiches that includes the Saucer Burger with a half-pound of certified Angus Beef, a Hippie Burger with a veggie patty & jalapeno-pesto mayo, the Saucer Dipster with seasoned roast beef & swiss cheese and the River Rocker with smoked salmon & cream cheese. Bratwurst, pizza, salads, soup and dessert are also on the menu.

Captain Tom’s Seafood & Oyster Bar: Fresh Oysters in Katy

Oysters and beer are on the menu at Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar. The restaurant has a casual and laid back vibe. Most of the seating is just stools at the bar. The whole restaurant is shaped like a ship. The oysters are huge, fresh, and full of flavor. Add your favorite condiments like lemon juice, hot sauce, and horseradish. Fried options are also available like fried oysters, fried shrimp, and fried crab fingers. The gumbo is also very tasty. Order an appetizer like the stuffed jalapenos full of shrimp and crab meat. Pair your drink with a michelada, a concoction of Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and your favorite beer. Prices are very reasonable. Come early, Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar does get crowded.

Ritters Frozen Custard: Sundaes in Katy

Craving something different than regular ice cream? Take a trip to Ritters Frozen Custard. Get ready for fresh-made, frozen custard treats. The fresh banana custard is very popular. Flavors rotate regularly. Try traditional vanilla or something more creative like cherry cheesecake, rocky road, butter almond, espresso bean, mango, and the strawberry shortcake sundae. Every flavor is fresh, rich, and creamy. Regular ice cream, water ice, hot dogs, and nachos are also available. Prices are very reasonable. The line does get long for this delicious treat but it is well worth the wait. There is limited outdoor seating. Open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday to Saturday.

An innovative fusion of the two cuisines means this little eatery near Marquis at Katy has a unique menu, with crab puffs and spicy salsa mingling on the same appetizer plate. Sushi rolls contain a delectable medley of similarly innovative ingredients. Try the T Rex and you get soft shell crawfish, jalapeño, cucumber, avocado & habañero topped with kani, maguro and unagi. Entree choices include a Churrasco Plate with grilled Angus Tenderloin marinated in chimichurri, served with garlic mashed potatoes, Blackened Chilean Sea Bass with black beans, and Stir Fried Seafood Rice with sweet plantain slices. Stop in at lunchtime for a 3-course meal for just $12. Japaneiro's is open every day for lunch and dinner.
