Enjoy the great outdoors at the beautiful Huntley Meadows Park in the heart of Alexandria. This wetland park is a hidden gem that you may be surprised to find amongst such a metropolitan area.
Boardwalk structures lead the way through this marshy eco-wonderland, with a variety of other trails connecting throughout the 1,500-acre reserve area. Among the wildlife you can spot on your stroll are beavers, blue herons, osprey, snakes, frogs, turtles, and many more. Be sure to have your camera ready, and don’t forget the bug spray. Stop by the visitor center before your walk to learn more about the ecosystems through a variety of exhibits and classrooms.
Do note that they don’t allow running, biking, or dogs as to not disturb the ecosystems and wildlife. Parking is easily accessible, and as the park is a nonprofit there is a $2 suggested parking donation.
