La India Bonita is a little hole in the wall eatery that doesn’t take credit cards, doesn’t deliver, doesn’t have Wi-Fi or TV, doesn’t have hipster decor, and doesn't have a wait staff in cute uniforms. What this League City restaurant does have is some of the most delicious, authentic tacos and tortas this side of the Rio Grande. You'll be happy to chow down on smoky barbacoa tortas or chorizo tacos, and regulars say you should definitely remember to help yourself to some of the free charro beans at the salsa bar.

Place your order at the window, grab a soda or a lemonade from a cooler of Mexican drinks, and take your red plastic basket of food into a little yellow booth in the tiny dining room to enjoy. You'll be glad you've taken a cue from the crowds that pack La India Bonita every lunch hour.

Lone Star Grill: Better Bring a Big Appetite

Lone Star Grill is a popular Bacliff roadhouse offering Texas-size portions of American fare at a great price.

Steaks, seafood, and burgers are the focus here, with a different special offered Mondays through Fridays. On Monday nights, crawfish—arguably Lone Star's most popular menu item—is a bargain at just $4 a pound and is served with corn and potatoes. Also offered on Mondays is a beer special: domestic buckets of six beers for just $15. Other favorites include Tuesday's chicken fried steak, which is breaded and served with mashed potatoes, green beans, and gravy. Steak lovers also rave about Lone Star's country ribeye.

Crusty Garlic Bread Sets the Tone at Pomodoro’s Cucina Italiana

When you walk in the front doors of Pomodoro's Cucina Italiana, you'll be greeted by the fragrant aroma of garlic, basil, and other smells signature to excellent Italian fare. That said, you'll most likely be left with a craving for garlic bread, a fan favorite here. A crusty Italian baguette is slathered with rich, decadent garlic butter, which regulars report is worth the calories. Or start off with the fried mozzarella, which is also very good.

For entrees, the selection is extensive. Regulars rave about the hearty lasagna, which comes in a massive portion that will satisfy even the biggest appetite. Also good is the lobster ravioli with cream sauce and the poached seafood chilled and served on a bed of fresh mixed greens. Leave room for some tiramisu for dessert; you won’t be disappointed.

Pomodoro's Cucina Italiana is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant also delivers, should you feel like staying in for the night.

If you’re looking for high-quality fare in the Webster area, locals will point you in the direction of Main St. Bistro. This restaurant, located in historic Old League City, blends a wide variety of influences from classic Texan fare to Creole, Latin American, and even French cuisines. The end result is food that is flavorful and satisfying. The space is small, but the room has great atmosphere and flow, so it doesn’t seem crowded.

Some of the most popular appetizers on the menu are the seared sea scallops dusted with cumin on a poblano cream base and the shrimp tossed in red pepper oil. For entrees, regulars rave about the pan-seared salmon with a spicy cream adobe sauce and rice pilaf, as well as the delectable take on shrimp and grits. Leave room for dessert if you can – their seasonal sorbets are flavorful and refreshing. Service is top-notch and prices are very reasonable.
